Self-build Website Company Recommendation

Posted by Anonymous on 50 Points
I have limited budget, so i was considering using selfbuild website. I'm asking for recommendation about best self-build website company. That software of website publisher company should be suitable for fully SEO in future.

Well, if u have some other hosted website design company suggests, it's also welcome!

Thanks~

Look at Wordpress (hosted on your own server). There's a wealth of great templates ("themes") as well (including SEO) - mostly all free.

Thanks for ur quick reply. Well, I heared the Wordpress before, but it seems to be a good website for blog and mini website. The website i wanna build is about my company. I own a samlll company which means my budget is limited. So cost-effective website is my objective. My budget range is aroudn 1000 dollar. Do u have anyother website design company recommendation? Not only limited to self-build web firms.

How about interprise? I got reference from others that the website pulisher of interprise company is really good for small business, is it ture?

    Cheers,

Wordpress can create a full-featured website with or without a blog. It is extremely cost effective and easily maintained yourself.

I second Jay's recommendation of using WordPress. There are several Fortune 500 companies now that build their entire Corporate sites on WordPress. Very scaleable and you can change the content on the backend quite easily. Most of the sites I design are custom and under $1,000. Good luck!

    Take a look at:

    (1) www.homestead.com -- has about 2,000 templates to choose from, and a good reputation, out of the U.S.

    (2) www.webnode.com -- is better than homestead in some respects, out of Eastern Europe (Slovakia?). If webnode is to your liking, but you want to tweak the templates, than get a hold of someone, for instance a savy student, who knows CSS.

In any case, play around some with a free website before talking to a custom designer. The experience will make you much clearer on exactly what you need.

You will want to have a back-up website on a different server in case of catastrophe. I suggest dumping content into a Googlesite, free, easy to use, very basic features.

Lastly, if you plan to idownload any images to use on your website from a "free" source, be darn sure to check into copyright laws. Copyright extortion is becoming mnore and more common.

    Regards,

How about Shopify? I am just starting to build my site on there. Any ideas how this compares to say wordpress?

I too recommend WordPress, but before you start any website you need to determine (a) the purpose of the site, and (b) how you will determine whether the website is doing what you expected it to do.

Is it possible you need a few landing pages and not a website? Don't just rush into a website because "it seems like a good idea."

I'm not suggesting that you do NOT need a website. I'm only recommending that you define the objective clearly before you invest time and money (and emotional energy) in a big project.

Thanks for all ur professional post!! I think Wordpress is a good source to build my own website! But there is another thing, I have no tech background, that is, I'm a IT zero guy, even though I know the Wordpress easy-to-use function, dealing with techical thing is still difficult to me, if so, how can i build the site? Or can I hire some IT professor to do it for me? Is the expense not high? cos I only a small business, can't afford too much, only around 1000 dollar

    Cheers,

I'd start with a template for your first site. You'll know if you need to go custom or step up to WordPress as your site becomes more sophisticated and you refine your content.

    Browser Based:
    https://www.squarespace.com
    https://www.snappages.com
    https://www.yola.com
    https://www.weebly.com
    https://www.basekit.com/business-websites

    Desktop Apps:
    https://www.homestead.com
    https://www.apple.com/ilife/iweb

    Full featured and scaleable:
    https://wordpress.org
    https://drupal.org/home

PS - I intentionally avoided sharing Flash-based resources, because that's a whole other discussion...

    Good luck,
    Terry

The graphic designer I use for many of my projects has created several WordPress sites for her clients. And her rates are very reasonable. Send me an email message (using the contact information in my profile) and I'll provide her contact information.

How come nobody mentioned Joomla? We've just compared Wordpress with Joomla and narrowly decided to go with Joomla. Did we make the wrong decision?

That's intersting! Could you talk about more about Joomla?~~
