Texas Salsa Company Where To Start

Posted by sorellas.boutique on 250 Points
I have an amazing salsa in which I have won many competitions. I would like to find a company to make and package for me. How do I do this? Do any of you out there know of a company.

What is the best way to get into the big box stores?

I have made and sold the salsa in my store and have a decent customer base. I have been told numerous times that I need to sell it in HEB and Walmart..
Thank you in advance for your input!

Distribution at major retail outlets is possible, but the competition for limited shelf-space is fierce, and retailers have developed systems for shelf allocation that you will need to learn and master.

Most important is to demonstrate that you have tested effective marketing elements that will guarantee consumer offtake for the retailer. That means packaging, promotion and advertising that have already been proven to work and generate sufficient profit for the retailer to warrant the distribution and support you want.

They will also want slotting fees up-front -- either cash or deep discounts on initial orders -- to cover their costs and insure that they don't lose money if your product fails to meet the volume goals you project.

If you have never done this before, you'll probably want someone who has to guide you. (Randall would be a good candidate for this!)

    Good luck!

Thank you all for your feed back. I know the competition is fierce and i'm prepared and confident in my product. I am also ok with being in smaller Boutique - Food stores. I will Contact Randall. Thanks again!!!!

Just to be clear, being "confident in [your] product" isn't the issue. It's about the marketing support you plan to provide to generate awareness and initial trial. The product itself only becomes relevant after people try the product for the first time. Focus on the marketing for now.

How will people find out about the product? What will tempt them to buy/try it? Why should they risk disappointment by switching from their current/favorite brand?
