Promos For University Students

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
Hello I am the marketing coordinator for a University's Student Centre and I am primarily in charge of marketing and promotions for the restaurant and pub located within the Student Centre. The restaurant is the only one of its kind on campus as it serves a full service menu with a great ambience. Furthermore we have lots of events running throughout the semester. The restaurant is very popular but more amongst faculty and staff since the fast food franchises cater to most of the student's needs. That being said we still do get many students especially during birthdays since we are essentially the only place where u can have a large group of people without being separated for example in a food court. Some of our promotions include couponing at the start of the semester, VIP cards, frequent feeder cards, friend of cards, business card draws, list serv draws, birthday promos, floor dinners for those in residence. Our advertising consists of doing posters which are designed by graphic designers, banners, weekly ads in the campus newspaper, list-servs and of course word of mouth since most of the servers are students.
There seems to be a stigma associated the restaurant that it is expensive. The average price of a meal is $8. Any ideas on how to counter this? Furthermore im looking for any other promo ideas that would get students to the restaurant…

Many thanks

Hi srajan, here are some ideas...

During the slower times when there are not many customers eating in your restaurant (i.e. between 3:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m.) offer meals for $4.99.

A special of the day where that item/meal is offered at a better price. Or desert is free with the purchase of any meal.

Offer a free meal or desert for students who have a certain gpa throughout the semester.

If student associations/organizations don't currently hold their events/meetings at your restaurant, this is something to look into.

You could have themed celebrations and serve food that corresponds (i.e. Mexican food for Cinco de Mayo, Bar-b-que for July 4th, etc.). Students pay an affordable price, they can try all the food, and socialize with each other.
