Hi Fellow Marketing Profs

I got engaged last Saturday at a Lionel Ritchie Concert...it was absolutely beautiful, I was surprised and Happy out of my wits!!

Lionel was good too :-)

However, I am planning the wedding, anyone know of any unusual, but fun themes?

Warmest regards

    Hi Simy

From your postings and questions, you are well up on the entertaining / entertainment front, but you do it for others, so its time to be a bit selfless – in a modest way. As one of your passions is music, there should be a way to get something pretty hot for an event as important as your wedding, so pull out all the stops – don’t be pushy, use that diplomacy and tact and the disarming off the wall approach you use and see who you can persuade to lend a hand. Not directly, but indirectly.

You’ve no doubt heard of the fact that everyone is “connected” to someone else in just six steps – read the book “Six Degrees: The Science of a Connected Age” and see how you can apply it to your wedding. You won’t know how the connection will come up or what it might be but as you will be in charge; you can always issue a polite no if you don’t feel that the resultant connection is appropriate.

Here’s how it happened for an old friend. She was getting married and didn’t really want to pay a fortune for a limo, so I lent her my Bentley and acted as chauffer. As I garaged the car along with some other silly motors in a barn I share with David Gilmore from The Pink Floyd, he heard about the wedding and left a lovely bouquet for her and an invite to a concert – I didn’t ask. She likes the band, but it’s not her favourite.

The previous week, he’d borrowed the car to go to a “posh” party held in a London hotel by Elton John. When I collected the car for the wedding, there was a personal invite on the back seat – this time with a back-stage pass to an Elton gig. Now that was the works!

No one asked for anything, apart from Mr Gilmore wanting to borrow something stately. And look what happened! It's sheer luck of course but if you give people the chance, someone may respond in a way you couldn’t have envisaged.

Whatever you do, I wish you every happiness and a wonderful day

i dont know whether u can manage this, but why dont your better half or you arrive at the wedding ceremony on back/top of an Elephant, like some Maharaja/rani of some Kingdom.

i also like the idea of using Lionel Ritchie lookalike. That will be a complete surprise to all the guests.

    fun ideas, hmm, lets see...

    1. i dont know whether u can manage this, but why dont your better half or you arrive at the wedding ceremony on back/top of an Elephant, like some Maharaja/rani of some Kingdom, wearing all the king-like clothes.

    2. alternative of Elephant, can be Horse-drawn Carriage.

    3. if you are aware of Indian traditions, Use a PAALKI to come to the wedding ceremony also depart with your hubby with a tag hanging "Just Married".

PAALKI is a carriage where you can sit with doors on both sides. This is NOT on any wheels rather it is carried by 4 to 6 ppl who carry it by holding on 2 horizontal stands that potrude from the roof of the carriage.

    hope that helps.

    cheers!!

Hi Simmy....some great ideas everyone has given you there....personally I think nothing enriches the mood better than an exotic flava throughout. palm trees, ice sculpures, live musicians and exotic dancers....u could even have a mini exhibition of both you guys' achievemtns and single life highlights put together in a colazh...for guests to amuse over

whatever u do...make sure u have fun, dance a lot and be centre of attention throughout...who cares about the design of place..Ur getting married...
