.com Help- Need A Name

Posted by Alissa_Goodwin on 500 Points
About me: I'm a Bay Area psychotherapist in private practice who offers solution-focused counseling for clients who want to change unhealthy patterns and set goals. I treat mental disorders and believe recovery (from mental illness and substances) is possible.

I already own my (name).com and (city)mentalwellness.com. I want to create a website URL/company name that isn't just my name so I can add people when I shift to a group practice AND so i'm not limiting myself to just my city

My specialities are:
general mental wellness (rather than "illness")
sports performance/psychology
substance abuse recovery
goal setting/life planning

I like to help clients find solutions, create goals, and notice unhealthy patterns. It's day one of the rest of your life. How do you want to change it?

Some URLS i like (but are taken):
mentalwellness.com
mentalwellnessandrecovery.com
getpsyched.com
mindovermatter.com

Any ideas? I want a .com

    What kinds of terms are potential patients searching for?

    Start there.

    Then figure out which sites you'll be ranking against.

    Some available domains to get you thinking:
    * PsycheAlive.com
    * LivingPositivelyWell.com
    * BetterGetWell.com

    Whatever else you do, do NOT use a regular domain registry to do your searching: for possible domain names that are not taken but for which there is a high level of search interest, a handful of the popular domain registrars are known to buy up domain names that someone has searched for but has not yet bought so that the registrar can then resell the popular domain for much more than it cost a few minutes ago.

    There's one registrar in particular that's well known for doing this.

    I suggest you use Fabulous.com for all your searching, and that you buy through them.

    Thanks, Gary for the tip.

    Search terms:
    mental health, therapist, therapy, psychotherapist, counseling, help

    I want to brand something creative, fresh/modern, new approach. etc.

    Some services/phrases etc.:

    narrate your life/choose the ending
    design
    recover
    goals/solutions/plan
    helping people replace their unhealthy thinking patterns and behaviors with something they can become passionate about

    What do you all think about GetPsychedTherapy?
    Does it not sound serious enough?

    I presume the ultimate goal is to get the phone ringing with hot prospects ready to sign-up for some counseling. Right? If so, then "something creative, fresh/modern, new approach" may not be the best way to go.

    The ideal approach from a marketing standpoint could well be a name that speaks directly to the person searching for help right now -- with a compelling and irresistible benefit.

    And the best way to learn what is on that person's mind/what they want (without actually talking with them) is probably to see what they were searching for when they found their therapist as a result of a search.

    It's time for a little detective work. What relevant words are high on the keywords list for the kinds of counseling you want to do? What keywords do the leaders use -- in your market and nearby? Have you checked the SpyFu reports? Can you ask some current clients how they searched for the right provider?

    You can, of course, just hire someone to do this for you. (I can recommend a true expert.) But if you have the time and are so inclined, you will gain a lot of great information for other uses if you do it yourself. Competitors and colleagues have already done a lot of the research for you. Now you just have to "read their notes."

    I think you will be happier with a really effective name -- that gets the phone ringing -- than with a "creative, fresh/modern" name and a silent phone.

    people typically find services through word of mouth or insurance companies. so i guess it's more important to have a good website than anything. I just need to hire someone to get my website on the first page of a search. (SEO?)
    Where is a good place to hire someone for these services?

    In our experience, the best names are the ones that echo the key search term and are then followed with a landing page headline that completes the 3-way message-match.

    In your case, with three or four different benefit promises (and target audiences) you may want at least 3 or 4 different domains/websites.

    These specialties each appeal to different audiences with different benefits (and different search terms):

    * general mental wellness
    * sports performance/psychology
    * substance abuse recovery
    * goal setting/life planning

    And some reference to your location could be helpful, since someone in Marin County isn't likely to be searching for a therapist in San Jose, etc. You want to sound "local" to your best prospects.

    (I know. It's a lot to think about.)

    There are at least three things you need to consider in developing a website:

    1. Graphics -- eye appeal, layout, images, color
    2. Copywriting -- articulating the benefit, ensuring that the benefit comes through, proper emphasis on features/main benefit
    3. SEO, ready for search marketing, can be found by search bots, etc.

    Each of those requires its own expertise. There are very few people who are best at all of them. I will gladly share a recommendation or two for each, if you want. Just contact me directly (via email in my profile).
