Help: Name My New Manager Onboarding Program

Posted by ojfranklin on 500 Points
<< CONTEXT >>
I work for a large tech company (let's call it Acme) and we are launching a 6-month training and enablement program for new managers and we'd like to brand the program with a catchy and/or transparent name.

<< WHAT >>
This global program will serve approximately 300-400 newly hired, acquired, and promoted managers in the tech industry each year and includes surveys, newsletters, and multiple training and networking experiences.

This program is meant to onboard new managers to our company culture, unique processes, and what's expected of them as a people manger. After graduating from this program, managers will join other experienced managers in the general manager enablement program called "Leading at Acme" and there's a chance for a play on that title as described below.

<< AUDIENCE & CULTURE >>
The program participants will be all newly hired, acquired, and promoted managers, however, HR professionals and 2800ish managers across our 15K+ employee base will know of and refer to the program so it's important we have a name that clearly states it's purpose. As with most tech companies, our culture is edgy and we can be HIGHLY creative, but the balance is that the name of the program should clearly imply what the program is about or does.

<< THINGS TO CONSIDER >>
- The umbrella program is already called "Leading at Acme" so we could play off that somehow.
- The name "New Manager Success" perfectly describes the program, but we've had feedback this is boring

More questions? let me know.

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!

P.S. after this initial step, I'll be meeting with a group of new and experienced managers to test the proposed names out and discuss. Ideally, they'd help with coming up with the program name, but our timeline has been shortened and that's where you come into play.

    "Leadership Development at Acme"

"Leading at Acme" would naturally follow.

HI all, thank you for participating so far. I wanted to provide feedback on the answers:

@Mike: "Leadership Development at Acme" - This is so similar to Leading at Acme that I fear it lacks differentiation. Also we are developing both the new and experienced leaders.

@KSA: I like the idea of naming it after something in tech and we have a lot of well known proprietary names for our products, but one of the challenges there is that it can also be very confusing because people wonder if the training is about the product or process it's named after. For instance, Agile New Manager Onboarding could easily be misconstrued as training about how a manager should use Agile at Acme.

@Jay: While we are playful and a relatively casual culture, both "Managing Wizard School" and "Acme School of Managercraft (and Wizardry)" may be too playful. "Managing To Do Better" is factually correct, but it sounds a bit simplistic

One person's lack of differentiation is someone else's program series. I don't see "Leadership Development at Acme" favoring or disfavoring either new or experienced leaders.

I'm under the assumption that leadership should be developed before these leaders are trained to actually lead at Acme (by the aptly named Leading at Acme program). The next one in the progressing series could be "Senior Leadership at Acme" or "Advanced Leadership at Acme".
