Creative Publicity And Marketing Strategies

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
After having a novel published by one of the Big 5 publishers, the launch team effectively fell apart one week prior to the book's official sale date. Several months post sale, we have discovered that in the transition the key publicity and marketing elements were never initiated, which is disastrous for discoverability. While we have put the standard industry factors in place, I am seeking some creative marketing genius and out of the box strategies to regain ground very late in the game.

    Who/Where is the target market?
What budget do you have for the novel?
What's remarkable about it - why should people want to read it?

Marketing a fiction title is not easy. Even the big publishers are not particularly good at it.

Your best bet is to do what you can on your own. I recommend a book by John Kremer: "1,001 Ways To Market Your Book." Get the 6th edition.

A press junket, with the author pounding the pavement, being interviewed, being seen. Lots and lots of PR, appearances, readings, and signings.

Does your book's subject matter/theme have an already established 'following'?

Think Big, Start Small until you understand the process yourself.

In USA, there a numerous means addressing your concerns...to layer on what Mr. Bloomer; Goodman and Hamilton-Roth...if there is a 'following'; you may want to purchase a small batch email list and offer 1st Chapter free. 2nd Chapter for $X amount (low) 3rd Chapter $X a tad higher than 2nd Chapter etc.

IF book is that good, quick ready - your audience will gladly become involved.
