Company Name For Recovery Center

Posted by Alissa_Goodwin on 250 Points
I'm developing a new practice/center in the field of mental health and substance abuse.

I treat from a "bio-psycho-social" perspective
Meaning their genes, mental health and environment.

Here is a list of what makes me unique from standard recovery centers:

*treat mental health and addiction at the same time

*replace unhealthy behaviors with healthy behaviors

*look at 6-8 areas of healthy living to create better balance (i.e. relationships, career, health, spiritual, social, family)

*teach coping skills/emotion management

*meet clients where they are at (they might not be ready to quit drinking but willing to cut down)

I want to offer a program where one can buy a package for 12 weeks (with additional phases and maintenance sessions) It is scientifically-based- therefore creating goals will be a big component. There will be a weekly face-to-face meeting with "homework" during the week (tracking moods, working towards individual goals, etc.)

My target client will be Northern California, middle to upper middle class, educated, age 35-55, motivated to make changes, taking positive risks and internal growth.

It can use the word "center" or "services" or a name by itself.

I look forward to your idea!!! I'm enthusiastic and will give feedback quickly. Thank you.

Your description of the business is almost entirely about what you want to do, and not nearly as much about your target audience -- their needs, beliefs, habits, practices, attitudes, awareness, and the words they use when they talk about treatment.

A name is usually the first thing target clients will hear/read/notice, so it is THEIR reactions that will determine how good a name is, and how well it communicates the desired positioning.

Have you interviewed a dozen people who might be potential clients? If not, that's where I would start. Don't try to convince them of anything. This isn't a sales pitch. It's a series of high-gain questions, the answers to which will give you an insight into how they decide on treatment options, what criteria are most important to them, and how they view what you want to do.

Listen to them. Engage in the interaction. Ask probing questions. And take detailed notes. When you've completed at least 12 interviews, step back and review your notes. The name will be there. If you can't find it, share your notes with us and we'll find it for you.

I interviewed clients and these are some of the comments:

needs: to figure out how to stop using, stay sober

beliefs: I want to do this, I can do this, I'm scared, I'm a loser

habits: I don't have structure, I use substances (alcohol, drugs, food, sex) to feel better, I can't sleep, I can't stop using

attitudes: I relapse a lot I can't do it, I am a bad mother, I am out of control, I want this but I don't know how to do it

awareness: I have a problem that I cannot control, I am anxious, I am depressed, I think about using all the time, I want to find new things to do

words they use when they talk about treatment: stop relapsing, stop (insert alcohol or drug here), addict, support, old ways

What I learned is they never mentioned goals and getting healthy.

I'd like to come up with a simple word(s) for a company name- that includes the word "group" on the end- so I can grow it to a group practice. I don't want to use my name for this reason. I also want to offer "harm reduction" in addition to abstinence for those who aren't ready to quit- but would benefit from cutting down. (meeting client where they are at and not judging). My biggest focus is treating mental health AND substance abuse at the same time (most only focus on the drug abuse).

    Thanks.

    So there it is.

Given what you wrote, why not a name like "Stop" and tagline "(Northern California) Addiction Recovery Treatment"? Alternatively, "Ending Addiction" with tagline "(Northern California) Therapy Group".

Thank you. This post has taught me if I do the research/legwork, a name will appear. I am jumping the gun coming up with a name (which is exciting) rather than writing the business plan first. After diving into the research, I've learned I have to take a different direction to cover the overhead. So I'll post that once I get a more concrete vision.
I really appreciate the help and love this site.
