Looking For A Tagline For A Lifestyle Boutique

Posted by hello on 125 Points
I'd love to have some help with this.

We've had a store for 3 1/2 years. The website is in the middle of change; using new e-commerce software and a re-design of the front end too.

We're also giving the logo a 'facelift'. This means we need a tagline, which somehow conveys the breadth of what we offer and our ethos.

The store is called Marilyn & Melrose. We're in a market town in the UK, with Alnwick Castle sitting behind us.

We're Annie Sloan Chalk Paint stockists and run various up cycling workshops around furniture and the home. We also have sewing and crafting workshops. This year we are introducing mindfulness, guided meditation, reikii, aromatherapy, crystal and other workshops/taster sessions.

Initially, I came up with a tagline " it's all about lifestyle"

It's not really enough and is probably a bit to vague.

We store items that are beautiful quality and try to offer the best value we can too. I won't have anything in the store that I wouldn't use at home myself. In the High Street shop we have furniture, home accessories, clothes, jewellery, fashion accessories including purses, bags etc. We have fine art limited edition prints and original art work, scented candles, minerals and crystals for both the geological enthusiast and the mind, body & spirit enthusiast.

The website has just had some 500 error this morning, which I'm trying to sort out, but hopefully if you view it, you'll have an idea of what I'm trying to get across.

Really appreciate you looking at this for me.

    Marilyn & Melrose

    "Helping you design your life"

"Helping you design your living and your life"

    Hi

Thanks very for those suggestions Mike. I do like the sound of them and I think it's getting very, very close.

"Style for the way you live"
    "Hand Picked Style"
"Style for your life, home & beyond"

These were some other suggestions. I've had a notebook out and been pouring over words, moving them around like jigsaw.

It's coming together and thanks so much for those. If I go ahead with either of your suggestions, I'll be sure to let you know.

    Thanks, Karen.
"Style" could be used there too in either of these forms-

"Helping style your living and your life"

"Styling your living... and your life"

In my opinion, unless you clarify what type of style you offer, the tagline will be generic. Figure out what words your customers use to describe their style, and you'll be well on your way to getting the tagline spot-on.

Thanks very much for that guidance Jay.

The style we offer is French Country Chic, with a twist of Boho .... but that's a really mouthful!

So, to try and condense that is the trick.

My head feels like there's a kind of whirlwind buzzing around with words jumping out everywhere. Trying to catch the right ones is the key, as you say.

    Thanks again - much appreciated.

I should have said ... this is my first time visiting here. I probably should have said hello somewhere before posting here.

I'd just like to ask what the site etiquette/procedure is regarding the 'accept this response' button?

If I do, does it mean the whole question closes?
  • Posted on Accepted
Yes, the question closes if/when you "accept" responses. Experience suggests you get most input within a week of posting. You'll get more input if you comment on what you like/dislike about each suggestion ... more like a collaboration than a question/answer format.

One comment: I'd avoid using the word "help" or "helping" in the tagline (per a few of Mike's suggestions). "Help" can indicate that the main responsibility lies with your customer, and that you aren't willing to make a firm recommendation. You are "just helping."

Better if you can offer "the perfect solution to even the most challenging lifestyle/decor situation."

    That's very helpful mgoodman.

I take your point as well about the word 'help'. I haven't found myself looking at language in such a critical way for a long time. It's worth the effort though to finally get to the 'that's the one' moment.

I'm so pleased to have found this site too.

    :)

Rich style for a rich lifestyle

Thanks scarf nerd .... I have a feeling that the word 'rich' may be too easily be confused with 'expense' and 'wealth'. I realise that you are probably looking from the angle of 'rich' in another way, but I'm trying to think what a potential customer's view might be.

Appreciate the comment though - thank you.
