Naming Home Based Business

Posted by mymailboxname on 250 Points
I have a business making original one-of-a-kind purses and tote bags out of antique or unique hard back book covers and vintage album covers. I am looking to find an original name for my very small business. The products I create are a bit on the upscale side since each one involves many hours of work and the main items I use can be particularly expensive. They will be selling for between 75 and $100 each. These types of items will definitely be attractive to people who love music and reading. I would like them to appeal to people who are willing to put out the money for something that takes this much time and hard work and love.

Thank you Jay, I am looking for something that looks a bit more "classy", something that people perceive as special....

What makes a name "classy?" I thought Jay's suggestions were on-target, but you have something different in mind. Can you give some examples of names you think are "classy" in other industries?

It's been my experience that names become "classy" when the products they represent are themselves classy, and when the marketing materials are classy. Said another way, it's not the NAME itself that imparts "classy-ness," but the other way around -- a classy business makes the name feel classy.

I can't prove this, but I've spent enough time with positioning, branding and naming issues over the years to have observed the phenomenon several times.

    mgoodman....
As this is my first time using this site, perhaps I gave the wrong impression, as is often the case when anyone corresponds through emails. I wasn't suggesting the name wasn't a good idea, I am trying to convey to consumers that the type of product they will receive is something they would be proud to show off, because it is "classy".
I like the disCover name, because the materials are "covers", but soon I may be expanding to additional materials in addition to the covers. Apparently, I should have added that, so thank you for pointing that out.

I'm pretty sure "Totes" is trademarked by Totes-Isotoner. They probably wouldn't be thrilled by someone violating their right to the mark. Whether their mark is a strong one or not is another issue. It probably wouldn't matter unless/until you were very successful, but that's when the damages could be greatest and the cost/risk of changing your name would be especially painful.

marketingsmartly, I like that tagline...Classic styles for classic tastes

KSA, that is a great idea... I also do painting on the side and may look at using your idea for that when I am ready to venture out.

I thought a lot about this while trying to sleep last night, and adapted what Jay suggested to something like ReCovered disCoveries

Thank you all for your input.
