Driving Traffic To Our Blog Posts

Posted by rum68br on 400 Points
I work for a big well known tax and auditing firm. We write in house blogs on things such as the industry news and special work we have undertaken which are housed on our website. Recently it was suggested of putting these up onto other social media sites such as Google News, Digg and Reddit to help drive some traffic to our blogs. Has anyone tried this and been successful?

Do you have an estimate of the [monetized] average value of a click to your blog? Knowing what that click is worth will help determine how much time, effort and money it's worth to pursue additional clicks. You might find that targeted PPC advertising is more cost-effective than chasing social media sites.

Don't. Digg is a waste of time. Your best best to succeed here is to offer a premium incentive to get people to sign up, and to then use e-mail marketing and consistent messaging to keep bringing people back to your website.

That should have been "Your best bet"

Starting with a theme in social media with partial information on the story can help. So let's say that you start with a Google + theme blog covering articles on audits. Add part of the article and link back. It takes a little while to get a good following, but within months I had 3,000+ followers. Google+ accounted for 20% of traffic. Remember Google likes website that uses Google products....I provide more seo info at www.jaxmarketers.com

The most efficient way to do this is to implement some automated re-posting plugin that feeds your posts to other outlets. Personally, I don't like this approach since all it does it provide duplicate content in every vehicle. However, there is the chance that this may not be an issue for your target, if not you may want to investigate it.

Instead of posting-and-hoping, focus on identifying more about those that would really care about your articles. If you're a "big well known tax and auditing firm", then are you trying to get even more awareness, a different type of customer, or simply traffic-for-traffic's-sake?
