Value Of Keyword Link

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
This is a reworded follow up from a previous question on the subject. My thanks to others that commented before.

Not considering traffic, only SEO value, what price would you put for a keyword link to your website from a published news release on a content related, Google 4 ranked website?

Not a website that handles all types of press releases (press release mill) an industry specific site.

In your head would it be worth a $1.00, $2.00, $5.00...more? I would like to hear from people that have a price in their head that would make them feel it's a good value if they were making the purchase.

Thank you.

Not sure I could answer, as SEO value is related to traffic, but you say not to consider this.

Peter, I'm looking for value that relates to natural search engine ranking. Links coming into your site help that. But at what price? I don't think a calculable answer can be given, but perhaps a perceived value can be offered.

It's value to me would be based on previous successes. How much traffic? How many conversions? A link all by itself isn't worth as much as a link that's proven to draw prospects.

As the others have said, it's impossible to put a value on a link without considering other factors.

But I think you're actually asking how much to charge for an industry-specific online press release. I think the best way to set such a price is to look at other press release services and see what they charge. You'll need to decide what pricing strategy you want to follow: high-price premium, low-price leader, middle-of-the-pack distinguished by some other benefits to the customer, etc.

    Probably something less than $0.01.

You need a lot of high-quality links to move you up the ranking list. Unless you have a very high conversion rate and a very high gross profit, getting another link to move you up the ranking list isn't worth much.

If you have something really newsworthy that others will pick up and repeat, then the link might be worth a little more ... perhaps $0.05. Only if it goes viral will that original link be worth $1.00 or more. (Speaking only of the search engine ranking, per your request.)

As others have pointed out, you're asking a question for which there is no pat answer. It always depends on a lot of factors. Start by assuming it's worth nothing. Then see if you can prove yourself wrong.
