Corporate Multi-brand Marketing

I am looking for any opinions, case studies, articles, or examples of corporations marketing multiple brands, e.g., G.M. marketing Buick vs. Pontiac vs. Cadillac; or P&G, Kraft, etc. Specifically, are there any "rules of engagement" (issues, problems, opportunities, etc.) between competing brands owned by the same company?
