Like most of us, Elaine Fogel enjoys a good joke. And in a post at the MarketingProfs Daily Fix blog, she points to an irreverent advertisement that puts the subject matter of an ancient tale in a very modern context.
The video, titled "Exodus," opens on a bedraggled group of ancient nomads who have been wandering for 40 years. (As you might gather from the dialogue quoted below, the video includes an expletive.) In vain, the wanderers scan the desert for their promised land, mothers rock crying babies and a young group of men help an elder as he tries to reach their leader, who stands deep in thought at the top of a hill.
The elder asks, "What, Moses?"
To which the exasperated prophet exclaims, "We're f***ing lost!"
Not implausibly—considering that a series of supernatural plagues and a parted sea have delivered these people into the desert—his colorful words are no sooner spoken than a ball of fire descends from the sky and smashes into the sand before their feet. Like Fogel, we'll resist the urge to tell you what they find in the smoky crater; we will say, though, that we found the punch line as funny as did Fogel.
"There's something about quality humorous marketing that gets to me," says Elaine Fogel of this Marketing Inspiration. "It brightens my day. And after the past few frustrating days, this one turned my mood around."
