More than one-fourth of public relations and communications professionals say they are already using generative AI tools to craft press release content, according to recent research from PR Newswire.

The report was based on data from a survey conducted in July 2024 among 665 public relations and communications professionals in Canada and the United States.

Some 26% of respondents say they are using generative AI tools to craft press release content, 42% say they aren't right now but are open to doing so in the near future, and 32% say they aren't and have no plans to do so in the near future.

Among PR and comms professionals who are using generative AI to help craft press release content, some 49% are using the technology to write headlines, 41% to write body copy, and 41% to proofread content.

PR and comms professionals say the top challenges they face with press releases are not generating the anticipated media pickup, ensuring they reach the right people, and making them stand out.
