Do AI-generated blog posts perform similarly to human-written blog posts on Google Search? Do marketers and SEO experts think AI-written content does well in search rankings?

To find out, researchers at Semrush analyzed the search performance of 20,000 blog post URLs that were written by either people or artificial intelligence programs (they used the GPTZero tool to detect AI-written content). The researchers also surveyed 700 marketers, search engine optimizers (SEOs), and business owners about their experiences with AI content.

The researchers found that the AI-written blog posts and human-written blog posts tended to perform similarly in search. For example, some 57% of the AI-generated content and 58% of content written by people ended up in the top 10 results for various keywords.

However, the researchers also found that human-written content was somewhat more likely to end up in the Top 5 search results compared with AI-written content.

Some 31% of marketers and SEOs say their AI-written content performs the same as their human-written content, and 33% say it performs better.

Some 34% of respondents say there has been no noticeable change in their website's organic traffic since they started publishing AI-generated content, and 39% say there has been an increase in organic traffic.
