The majority of the most-visited websites in the United States and Europe are not fully compliant with privacy regulations, according to recent research from Privado.

The report was based on analysis of the 100 most-visited websites in the US and Europe. The researchers used Privado's automated consent monitoring to scan the sites to determine whether they are compliant with Europe's GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) and California's CPRA (California Privacy Rights Act). As part of the analysis, researchers also looked at which third parties the sites are sharing personal data with.

The researchers found that 76% of the 100 most popular sites in the US are not compliant with the CPRA, and media sites have the highest rate of noncompliance (79%).

The researchers found that 74% of the 100 most popular sites in Europe are not compliant with the GDPR; again, media sites have the highest rate of noncompliance (82%).

The researchers found that popular sites are sharing personal data with 31 third parties, on average, in the United States, and 21 third parties, on average, in Europe.

The majority of the most-popular websites in both the United States and Europe are sharing information with Google, Facebook/Meta, and Microsoft.
