Security and governance are the biggest obstacles businesses face when trying to integrate data from various sources, according to recent research from Nexla and Ascend2.

The report was based on data from a survey conducted in April 2024 among 314 data integration professionals who work for US companies with $50+ million in annual revenue.

Respondents say the top challenges they face with integrating data from various sources within the organization are security concerns (56% say so) and security and governance issues (44%).

Most data integration professionals say their business experiences downtime at least once a month, on average, because of data integration problems.

Data integration professionals say the top factors that contribute to data backlogs are the complexity of data sources (49% say so), insufficient manpower/team skills (43%), and a lack of automation in the process (42%).

Respondents say the top ways they measure the success of data integration initiatives are improved data accuracy (69%), cost savings (59%), and time saved (58%).
