What are the biggest challenges freelancers face when working with clients? How do they feel about their onboarding, team integration, and feedback experiences with clients?
To find out, Wripple and MDRG conducted a survey in October 2023 among 200 freelancers who have been freelancing for at least two years.
Respondents say the most common challenges they've faced after being brought on by companies are a lack of professionalism/partnership (42% cite that as a challenge) and a lack of clarity about the work (38%).
Freelancers say the top reason they've avoided working with a client again is operational issues (63% say so).
Most freelancers (61%) say the onboarding process with clients is typically professional and occurs offline.
Some 36% of freelancers say the project briefing process with clients is typically consistent, thorough, and deliberate; 47% say it is adequate but lacking thoroughness and standards; and 16% say it is disorganized.
Half of freelancers say they are typically moderately integrated into a team when working with clients, and 22% say they are fully integrated.
Some 62% of freelancers say their clients typically schedule time throughout an engagement to provide input on work/performance.
