YouTube is by far the most used social media platform by Americans, according to a recent report from the Pew Research Center.
The annual report was based on data from a survey conducted between May and September, 2023, among a national representative sample of US adults.
Some 83% of respondents say they have ever used YouTube. Facebook ranks second (68% of Americans say they have ever used it), and Instagram is the third most-used platform (47%).
TikTok has undergone the most significant growth among major platforms in recent years: 33% of US adults say they use it—up 12 percentage points from 2021.
US adults under the age of 30 are much more likely than US adults over the age of 30 to use Instagram, Snapchat, and TikTok. US adults age 30-49 are more likely than other age groups to use LinkedIn, WhatsApp, and Facebook.
The researchers found various other demographic differences in social media platform use.
For example: Women are more likely than men to use Instagram; Hispanic adults are particularly likely to use TikTok; and Americans with more formal education are more likely to use LinkedIn.
