Among the Top 50 online properties, Google Sites ranked No. 1 in May with 179 million unique visitors, followed by Yahoo Sites with 167 million and Microsoft Sites with 160 million, according to data from comScore's Media Metrix service.
Facebook took the No. 4 spot with an all-time high of 130 million visitors during the month, followed by AOL LLC with 112 million.
Top 50 Ad Focus Ranking
BrightRoll Video Network led the May Ad Focus ranking, reaching 97% of Americans online. YuMe Video Network ranked second, reaching 96% of the population. ScanScout Network was third with a 93% reach.
Facebook ranked No. 32 in May, reaching 60.4 % of Americans, while YouTube was No. 36, reaching 52.3%.
Top-Gaining Site Categories
Seasonal events, such as Mother's Day and graduations, prompted consumers to visit Flowers/Gifts/Greetings sites in May 2010, while professional sports playoffs drove visitors to Sports sites during the month, according to comScore.
- Online Flowers/Gifts/Greetings websites were the top-gaining category in May, attracting 36.1 million unique visitors, up 23% from the previous month. American Greetings led the category with 10.4 million visitors, followed by ProFlowers.com with 7.3 million visitors, a 168% surge from April levels. Gifts.com took the No. 3 spot with 5.8 million visitors, up 39%, followed by 1-800-Flowers.com, with 3.6 million, up 86% and Hallmark with 2.8 million.
- Sports websites attracted 140.6 million unique visitors during the month, up 20% from April levels. Yahoo Sites ranked No. 1 in the category, attracting 35.9 million visitors, followed by ESPN with 25.4 million visitors. FoxSports on MSN ranked third with 23.5 million visitors, while CBS Sports and Fantasy Sports Ventures rounded out the top 5, each with 15.3 million visitors.
- Entertainment News websites attracted 100.0 million unique visitors in May, up 20% from April levels—an all-time category high. Celebrity gossip site omg led the category with 23million visitors. TMZ was second with 16.1 million visitors, up 8% from the previous month, followed closely by People with 15.4 million (up 6%), E Online with 8.4 million (up 26%), and Entertainment Weekly, which rounded out the top 5 with 8.3 million visitors.
